You Don’t Have a Procrastination Problem — You Have a Self-Trust Problem
🌿 The Myth of Procrastination
My dear, a client once came to me certain she had a procrastination problem.
She told me, “If I could just stop procrastinating, I’d finally hit my income goal.”
She believed her success was waiting on the other side of more discipline, more structure, or more motivation. She could clearly picture the version of herself who didn’t delay — productive, consistent, hitting her goals with ease.
But when we looked deeper, what she called procrastination wasn’t laziness or lack of drive.
It was fear of her own reactions.
She wasn’t avoiding the work — she was avoiding the self-criticism she expected afterward.
💔 The Cycle That Keeps You Stuck
Here’s what was really happening:
She was afraid of what she’d say to herself no matter the outcome.
If she took action and succeeded, she’d think:
“You should have done this sooner.”
“You always overthink things.”
“You never move fast enough.”
If she took action and failed, she’d think:
“See, you’re not good enough.”
“You shouldn’t have tried.”
“This is why you’ll never get ahead.”
Her brain learned something painful but logical:
If I’m going to get beaten up either way, why even try?
So she didn’t have a procrastination issue — she had a self-safety issue.
Her brain was protecting her from herself.
💫 The Real Solution
When she saw this pattern, everything changed.
She decided to start having her own back — no matter what.
She told herself, “As long as I take action, I’m doing the best I can with what I know right now.”
She stopped measuring her worth by her results and started measuring her courage by her willingness to show up.
And the more she did, the more trust she built — and the easier action became.
Now, she’s creating consistent results, not because she fixed procrastination, but because she fixed the relationship that created it.
